SAND and SCALE on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
SAND and SCALE have been continuously updated since Version 1 was released in 1986. SAND and SCALE Version 4 are 32-bit Windows applications, and as such, SAND and SCALE will happily run on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 8. The following screenshots were captured from fully working SAND and SCALE suites running on:
SAND and SCALE on Windows 8.
The following screenshot was captured from fully working SAND and SCALE suites running on the September 2011 public Developer Preview of 64-bit Windows 8, SAND and SCALE also work on the 32-bit version of Windows 8.

The following screenshot was captured from fully working SAND and SCALE suites running on 64-bit Windows 7, SAND and SCALE also work on the 32-bit version of Windows 7.

The following screenshots were captured from fully working SAND and SCALE suites running on 64-bit Windows Vista, SAND and SCALE also work on the 32-bit version of Windows 7.
Installation of SAND and SCALE on Windows Vista.
The main new security feature in Windows Vista is User Account Control. From DOS to Windows 95 to XP, users have been accustomed to having Administrator rights, however this all changes in Vista. Now standard users have restricted rights, including not being allowed to write files to system directories, this includes by default directories off the root of C, e.g. C:\SAND.
The Fitzroy Installation program checks the operating system and if it detects it is running on Windows Vista then after the files have been copied, it modifies the access permissions on just the installation and working directories setting read and write privileges for the group Everyone, which allows users to continue to use directories like C:\SAND as before. After installation SAND/SCALE is run as a standard user, it does not require elevated permissions, nor does it require a compatibility mode. This screenshot shows the installer running, creating the directories and shortcuts requested by the user.
Screenshots of SAND and SCALE on Vista 64-bit.
This is a screenshot of SCALE running on Vista 64-bit, there is no change to any behaviour of SCALE compared with running under XP. A new feature of the user interface in Vista is that the title bars are "glass": you can see through to the windows and desktop beneath.
NL-STRESS and data preparation.
This screenshot shows the GUI for data preparation for NL-STRESS analyses, running on Vista 64-bit. The multipad text editor may also be used for creating the data file. NL-STRESS itself also runs without problems, for the elastic, plastic, and stability analysis of skeletal structures. The Parametric Data Files, Benchmarks and batch operation for the analysis of guyed masts etc. all work correctly.
Data may also be entered using Fitroy's text editor multipad, running on Vista 64-bit.
Data may also be entered using the text editor Jotter, seen here running on Vista 64-bit. As you can see this, like all the programs in the SAND/SCALE suite this is a Windows program; and like all programs in the SAND/SCALE suite this has been developed in-house by Fitzroy Systems and is compiled in its entirety directly from the source code. Fitzroy does not re-sell third party software, so there is no reliance on third parties for the continued provision of software.

LUCID and SPADE for Concrete and Steel detailing.
A screenshot of LUCID and SPADE for generating concrete and steel detailing, running on Vista 64-bit.
To edit the details from SPADE and LUCID the user may use the TAPE drawing editor, shown here running on Vista 64-bit.
Printing and Print Preview.
Printing works fine from SAND and SCALE on Vista 64-bit. This screenshot shows the new feature in SAND and SCALE for print previewing, and the new Print Setup dialog. The new feature for automatically saving a copy of each print as a PDF file also works without problems.
Windows Flip and Taskbar thumbnails.
The longstanding ALT+TAB, used for navigating between open windows, now shows previews of the open windows in addition to the icons. The taskbar thumbnails now show you the content contained in the minimized windows on your taskbar.
Windows Flip 3D.
Windows Flip 3D creates a view of your open windows in a three-dimensional stack on your desktop. Using the Windows logo+TAB keys, you can flip through the open windows to quickly locate and select the window you want. This screenshot shows the SAND menu, the SAND/SCALE htmlhelp system, Internet Explorer 7 and the desktop.
